Charlotte Keckler was a pseudonym used by a woman who traveled the country in the 60's, 70's and 80's claiming to have "escaped" from a Carmelite Convent. However, she never names this convent, just that it is "foreign". But in reading her story it is interesting to note that in this country everyone speaks English. England, possibly, but I was unable to locate any Carmelite convents in England. It could not be Canada because she states that part of her journey home was on a ship.
A "pastor" by the name of Reckart put up a website defending this one and giving his proof. His proof is her Social Security Death record:

According to the Social Security Number Decoder, we know that this SSN was issued in Florida in 1951. "Sister" Charlotte's testimony never mentions her living in Florida. That also raises the issue of where was she between 1898 and 1951? Turning to what we do know, thanks to Rootsweb, we can see her death record as well:

This gives us a little more info. But a search of the Iowa census at Heritage Quest does not reveal a Charlotte Keckler in Iowa at all in 1900, 1910 or 1920. Neither does it show her (alleged) brother John or sister Connie. So it appears the name she gave in death is as fictitious as her life. Add this to Sean's research and it can safely be said this woman was a fraud.

I have met ex priests that have left the church and are hurt and disappointing with the Catholic church they vowed to serve. I have friend that was paid off by the Catholic Church for molestation by priests. She clearly states she knows the law, she knows what she is doing, and to disclose too much info could lead to the convent finding her and forcing her back perhaps.
Sure one might think that if it were true she would want to disclose the info as to get the convent closed down and people arrested.
But when the corruption speads deep its perhaps hard to know how many people holding authority are in on it, or paid off to look the other way.
Her goal was ultimately not to disclose information to get revenge and make arrests! She was a NUN! As a young man, I heard this story, and it sounded so believable. I can remember living in the Caribbean when John Paul 11 was expected to visit.
Fast-forward, many years after, I felt this urge to revisit the story to see if it is true. I do believe that the bile identifies the fallen Church of Revelation 17 as the Papacy. But, that does not mean we should fabricate evidence to solidify this belief.
I think the author has made some serious points, that should be taken into considerations. I do not know whether this story is false or true, but base on number of facts, as someone who is searching for truth, I could not accept her story as true.
I believe that as Christians, our aim should always to ascertain what is truth. The date of birth and her social security number, is a red flag. I do not need her to confirm bible truth, the bible defends itself.

The fact that a nun doesn't go by their birth name is not unusual.
I do ancestry research and have researched a number of nuns, particularly in the last century, and all were given new names and they were never again known by their birth name.
Since later in the last century, the nun would be officially registered at death with their birth name, but in prior years nuns who died were not registered.
This lady escaped but had been known as Sr Charlotte for many years so it would not be unusual for her to keep "taken" name.
I have heard some horrendous stories about the treatment of cloistered nuns, so I believe this lady. She had a great testimony of what Christ did for her.
I'm so glad that most nuns these days are in more open convents but I'm sure that there are convents that are still cloistered or partly cloistered and I pray that those ladies are now protected.
